3.5 StarsFreed by Him, the debut novel by G.L. Chapple, is the first part of a duet in her “Fighting Free Series”. It’s the story of overcoming your fears, letting go of your past, and start trusting again.
Lena Nichols is a young woman who went through hell, only to come out on the other side stronger. She’s quite badass, while still expressing a vulnerability. During the first few weeks at University, Lena experiences something horrible that sends her running back home. Deciding not to go back to University, she starts to work for her father’s company—working her way up from the bottom. During a day of volunteering at the woman’s shelter, she meets Nate Masters, a former soldier, turned police officer.
I like both characters, Lena and Nate. They have great chemistry and an attraction that is pretty hot. From the prologue, you know that Lena is not your average woman; she went through hell, which made her weary to trust. But Nate is determined to gain her trust and break down her walls. However, outside forces are trying to ruin what the two of them are building.
I do like Freed by Him. The plot is great and well-thought out—the characters are likeable and engaging. However, sadly, I found the writing somewhat lacking. The story has so much potential. While I wish the writing, as well as editing, would have been better, it’s not to say I won’t read the next book in the series. I definitely will. The characters and plot have left me curious as to what will happen next.
A warning though, the book does ends in a cliffhanger.

Absolutely loved this book couldn't put it down can't wait to buy the next book in the series will definitely buy at Xmas time great ending
Okay, this was a good book, not excellent but good. There were a few grammatical errors but not enough to deter from the story. I just did not feel the connection or electricity between Nate and Lena. The storyline is good though.
Love this story. A young woman trying to be stronger than se really is finds Nate who brings out her best qualities. She
suffered an event in her past and it appears its roaring back. Ends in a cliff hanger. Now I have to bite my nails for the next book. Great work Ms Chappell!!
For a first book, I have to say that this was awesome! The plot sucked you in from the start and the cliffhanger????? Ahhhhhh, I can't wait for the next installment. Nate is absolutely a dreamboat and Lena is his perfect match. You root for this couple from the start!
The prologue was so crazy that I was gasping as I turned the pages. THE PROLOGUE!!! You can only imagine how the rest of the book goes. There was so many twists and turns, gasping and saying "Noooo" out loud. It was truly a great book. Here's to many more successful stories from GL Chapple!
In Freed By Him we meet Lena - a woman who has overcome a nasty experience and is stronger as a result. But old hurts can sometimes lie dormant and make us feel like we have dealt with them until something or someone comes along to challenge us and see if we have really dealt with them after all or have we just pushed them down into a dark part of ourselves......
Nate Masters is a sexy as hell cop who is pulled into Lena's world and the chemistry between them is electric but the path of true attraction rarely runs smooth! And so it is for our sexy couple....
I really enjoyed this book and have to say that I welcomed the depth of character G.L. Chapple has developed in Nate and Lena. There is a warmth running through the characters that makes you feel you know them and Nate, in particular, is the kind of guy a girl can only dream about meeting! And special mention should be made of Grandpa - he is gold. I wasn't happy about the cliffhanger ending but I will be happy when the next book comes out -)
This is an amazing debut novel by GL Chapple, and it gave me an emotional rush, and I absolutely fell in love with the characters, especially gramps, which no one will be able to not love, he’s freaking hilarious! Life is full of obstacles and enemies at your door, but it’s what you do to overcome those hurdles that make you who you are. This is a beautiful story of love, loss, and taking back your life.
Lena is a strong willed woman, with work on her mind, leaving not much time for a social life. That all changes the night she meets Nate, and he changes her whole outlook on life, slowly but surely. She’s a survivor and I love her ability to help and think of others while hiding the truths of her past away from others to see.
Nate’s had his heart broken, and doesn’t quite believe in love anymore, so he works hard and plays even harder. Not wanting to open himself up for another heartache and betrayal, he keeps most people at a distance, until Lena walks into his life. She’s the sunshine he so desperately needs, and little does she know, Lena’s in need of him just as badly.
With all my heart, I believe these two were destined for each other, and I adored watching their blossoming relationship, even the struggles they go through. Brilliant must read for everyone, and kudos to GL Chapple on creating such a wonderful group of characters, and needless to say, I’m itching to see what comes next!
